This essay will discuss two main factors that have led to environmental degradation in agriculture: deforestation and excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides.

One of the primary causes of environmental degradation in agriculture is deforestation. Deforestation refers to the removal of large areas of forest, often to create space for agricultural activities such as farming and livestock production. When forests are cleared, it disrupts the natural water cycle, leading to changes in rainfall patterns and an increase in soil erosion. Additionally, deforestation contributes to the loss of biodiversity, as many species rely on these ecosystems for their survival.

Another significant factor contributing to environmental degradation in agriculture is the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides. These chemicals are essential for maintaining high crop yields; however, over-reliance on them has led to a range of environmental problems. For example, the runoff from fertilizers can cause eutrophication in nearby water sources, leading to oxygen depletion and the death of aquatic life.
