However, it also faces challenges such as fluctuating market prices, dependence on non-renewable resources like fossil fuels, and potential health risks associated with consumption of processed meats. The reliance on imported feedstuffs in some regions can also expose the industry to currency fluctuations and trade disruptions.

Ethically, there are concerns about animal welfare in factory farming. Additionally, public health issues, including antibiotic resistance, have been linked to the industry's use of antibiotics and hormones in livestock production.
