One reason for the increase in political activism is the rise of social media platforms, which have facilitated the sharing of information and ideas on a global scale. With just a few clicks, individuals can raise awareness about pressing issues, organize protests, and mobilize supporters. This has led to a greater sense of collective consciousness and empowerment among citizens, who are no longer reliant on traditional media outlets to shape their political views. For instance, the Arab Spring uprisings in 2010-2012, which swept across several Middle Eastern countries, were largely driven by social media campaigns that sparked widespread protests and political change.

Additionally, the growing sense of global interconnectedness has fueled a desire among people to be politically active and informed. As societies become more diverse and culturally aware, individuals are increasingly exposed to different perspectives on politics and governance. This awareness has led to an increased demand for political change and social justice, as seen in the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States, which began in 2013 and continues to gain momentum.
