Overfishing has several negative consequences for marine ecosystems. Firstly, when fish populations are overexploited, the natural balance within these ecosystems is disrupted. Predatory fish that rely on a healthy stock of prey species to survive may be significantly impacted, leading to a ripple effect throughout the food chain. This can result in the decline or disappearance of certain species and alterations in the behavior and distribution of others.

Secondly, overfishing can lead to a decrease in biodiversity within marine ecosystems.
