One major way in which traditional festivals contribute to cultural preservation is through the transmission of customs, traditions, and beliefs. Festivals often involve various rituals and ceremonies that have been practiced for centuries within a particular culture. By participating in these events, younger generations learn about their ancestral ways of life, thus ensuring that these practices are not forgotten. For example, the Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico is an opportunity for families to honor their deceased loved ones by creating altars with offerings of food, flowers, and personal items. This tradition helps pass down the cultural values of respect and remembrance to younger generations.

Another important function of traditional festivals is the promotion of social cohesion within a community.
