This has resulted in a rise in the number of English speakers globally, particularly in non-English speaking countries where it is taught as a second language. Consequently, this has led to an increase in the use of English at the expense of other languages. In some cases, this has even led to a reduction in the number of native speakers of less widely spoken languages due to assimilation and acculturation.

On the other hand, globalization has also had a positive impact on language diversity. As people from different cultures interact more frequently, there is an opportunity for cross-cultural exchanges that can enrich the lexicon and grammar of various languages. For example, loanwords from English have been incorporated into many non-English languages, while borrowings from other languages have enriched English vocabulary. Additionally, globalization has facilitated the spread of indigenous languages and minority dialects through digital media platforms such as social networking sites and online forums.

Despite these benefits, it is essential to acknowledge that the negative consequences of globalization on language diversity are more significant. The dominance of English in international communication can lead to a "language death" phenomenon, where less widely spoken languages become extinct or significantly reduce their number of native speakers.
