IELTS Writing Task 2 Topic: Is society becoming more or less environmentally conscious?
Model Answer:
In recent years, there has been a growing awareness and concern about environmental issues among societies worldwide. This increased consciousness can be attributed to factors such as advancements in technology, access to information, and the rise of global environmental movements. While some argue that society is becoming more environmentally conscious, others believe that the overall impact of these efforts is minimal compared to the scale of the problems we face.
On one hand, there are numerous examples of societies taking proactive steps towards a greener future. For instance, countries like Germany and Norway have shifted towards renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Moreover, initiatives like recycling programs, carbon offsetting schemes, and eco-friendly products have become more prevalent in everyday life.
On the other hand, some argue that despite these efforts, society's overall environmental consciousness remains lacking. For example, the increasing demand for consumer goods and the rise of single-use plastics have led to a surge in waste production. Additionally, deforestation rates continue to be alarmingly high, endangering biodiversity and exacerbating climate change.
In conclusion, while it is clear that societies are making efforts to become more environmentally conscious, there is still much progress to be made. Balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability will require a collective global effort, as well as changes in individual behaviors and habits.
