On one hand, proponents of international agreements argue that they are vital for several reasons. Firstly, they enable countries to set common goals and standards, which can help to level the playing field in terms of environmental regulations. For example, the Paris Agreement, signed by 196 parties, aims to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. By setting such a target, nations are held accountable for their actions and can work together to achieve it. Secondly, international agreements facilitate the sharing of technology and expertise, which can help less developed countries implement effective climate change mitigation strategies. Additionally, they encourage financial assistance from developed nations to support these efforts.

On the other hand, critics argue that local actions are more important in combating climate change. They believe that focusing on local initiatives allows for a greater understanding of specific environmental issues and tailored solutions. For example, local governments can implement policies such as recycling programs, renewable energy projects, and public transportation systems, which may be more effective than broad international agreements. Furthermore, critics argue that the implementation of international agreements relies heavily on the political will and commitment of individual nations, which can vary significantly. As a result, international agreements might not always lead to meaningful action at the national level.

In conclusion, while both international agreements and local actions play a crucial role in addressing climate change, I believe that a combination of both approaches is necessary for effective progress.
