IELTS Writing Task 2 topic: "Some people believe that society is becoming less supportive of government intervention, while others argue that it is becoming more supportive. Discuss both views and give your own opinion."

Model Answer:
Over the past few decades, there has been a growing debate about the role of government intervention in various aspects of society. Some people argue that society is becoming less supportive of such interventions, while others contend that it is becoming more supportive. In this essay, I will examine both views and provide my own opinion on whether or not support for government intervention is increasing or decreasing.

On one hand, there are those who believe that support for government intervention is waning. This group of people points to the rise in popularity of free-market ideologies, such as libertarianism and neoliberalism, which emphasize the importance of individual freedom and minimal state interference. They argue that these ideologies have gained traction due to perceived failures of socialist systems, economic crises, and concerns about the erosion of personal privacy. As a result, people are becoming less inclined to support government intervention in their lives.

On the other hand, some people contend that society is growing more supportive of government intervention. They argue that as the world becomes increasingly interconnected and complex, individuals recognize the need for collective action and coordination. This viewpoint is supported by the increasing support for progressive policies such as universal healthcare, environmental protection regulations, and social welfare programs. Additionally, recent crises like the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted the importance of a strong, proactive government in managing public health emergencies and ensuring economic stability.

In my opinion, while it is true that there are those who are becoming less supportive of government intervention, overall, I believe that society is growing more supportive of such interventions. This is because the challenges we face today are increasingly complex and require collective action. While there will always be those who advocate for minimal state interference, it is evident that many people recognize the need for a more active role from the government in addressing pressing issues such as climate change, income inequality, and public health crises.

In conclusion, while some argue that society's support for government intervention is waning due to the rise of free-market ideologies, it is my view that overall, society is becoming more supportive of government intervention as people recognize the need for collective action to tackle the complex challenges we face today.

Score: Based on IELTS scoring standards, this essay would likely receive a Band Score 8 or higher due to its clear organization, detailed examination of both views, and a well-supported personal opinion.
