On the other hand, others contend that the influence of powerful elites, corporate interests, and political manipulation has only served to limit the impact of public opinion on societal change. In this essay, I will examine both sides of this argument and present a conclusion based on available evidence.

One important factor contributing to increased responsiveness is the rise in power of social media platforms. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have given ordinary citizens a powerful tool to express their views and mobilize others who share their perspective. The recent Black Lives Matter movement, which gained significant traction through social media campaigns, serves as an example of how public opinion can be amplified and result in real-world change. Moreover, these platforms also provide a space for marginalized voices to be heard and acknowledged, which could not have been possible without the internet's democratizing potential.

Contrarily, it is argued that powerful elites, corporate interests, and political manipulation have limited the impact of public opinion on societal change. The influence of these groups can be seen in their ability to shape media narratives, control access to information, and silence dissenting voices. Additionally, issues such as climate change, income inequality, and systemic racism often seem to remain unresolved despite widespread public support for action. This suggests that the opinions of the general public may not hold enough sway over decision-makers to bring about meaningful change.

In conclusion, while it is true that advancements in technology have provided new platforms for public opinion to be expressed and heard, the influence of powerful elites, corporate interests, and political manipulation cannot be ignored. These factors have limited the impact of public opinion on societal change, suggesting that society may not be becoming more responsive to public opinion. It is essential to address these issues in order to create a more democratic and equitable society where the voices of all citizens are heard and valued.
