While it is true that both philosophies have their own merits and can coexist in various degrees, it can be argued that individualism has become more prominent in modern society due to several factors such as globalization, technological advancements, and changing social values.

On the one hand, the rise of globalization has created a world where people are interconnected like never before. As a result, there is an increasing emphasis on personal identity and autonomy. People are encouraged to express themselves and take responsibility for their actions, which is a key characteristic of individualism. Moreover, with technological advancements such as social media and the internet, individuals have more opportunities than ever to connect with others and share their thoughts and experiences. This can foster a sense of global community while also promoting individual perspectives and opinions.

On the other hand, collectivist societies place emphasis on group harmony, loyalty, and interdependence. While this type of society may seem to be at odds with the increasing focus on individualism, it is important to note that both philosophies can coexist in different degrees. For example, a highly individualistic culture might still value collective aspects such as family ties or teamwork within the workplace.

In conclusion, while both individualism and collectivism have their own merits, it appears that individualism has become more valued in modern society due to factors such as globalization and technological advancements.
