Writing Task 2 Topic:"Is society becoming more or less resistant to change?"
Model Answer:
Over the past few decades, societies around the world have experienced significant transformations in terms of technology, globalization, and social dynamics. It is essential to consider whether these changes have made society more or less resistant to further alterations.
On one hand, it can be argued that society has become increasingly resistant to change due to several factors. Firstly, the rapid development and advancement in technology have created a world where information is readily available at our fingertips. As a result, individuals often struggle to keep up with the pace of innovation, leading to a sense of discomfort and unease when faced with new concepts or ideas. This resistance can be observed in various aspects, including political ideologies, cultural norms, and traditional values.
Secondly, the rise of social media has created an environment where opinions and beliefs are easily shared and disseminated. This has led to the formation of echo chambers, where individuals are exposed only to information that aligns with their pre-existing views, further entrenching existing attitudes and making it difficult for new perspectives to gain traction.
On the other hand, there are several reasons to believe that society is becoming more open to change. The rise of globalization has exposed people to different cultures, beliefs, and ways of life, fostering a sense of interconnectedness and mutual understanding. Additionally, the increasing importance placed on environmental sustainability and social equity has spurred numerous grassroots movements, which have challenged traditional norms and values. Furthermore, the growing awareness of mental health issues and the significance of self-care has encouraged individuals to be more receptive to personal growth and change.
In conclusion, it is difficult to definitively state whether society is becoming more or less resistant to change. While there are factors that suggest increased resistance due to rapid technological advancements and the formation of echo chambers, globalization and growing awareness of social issues have contributed to a greater openness towards embracing change.
