Some people argue that society is becoming increasingly politically active, while others maintain that political apathy is on the rise. This essay will analyze both perspectives and provide evidence to support the view that society is indeed more engaged in political activism than ever before.

One of the key factors that have contributed to this increased engagement is the rise of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. These platforms have allowed people from all walks of life to voice their opinions on various issues and connect with like-minded individuals who share their views. The hashtag activism movement, which involves raising awareness about a particular cause by using specific hashtags on social media, is an excellent example of how these platforms have facilitated political activism.

Additionally, the increasing number of protests and demonstrations around the world indicates that society is becoming more politically active. The Black Lives Matter movement in the United States, the Extinction Rebellion in the United Kingdom, and the Yellow Vest movement in France are just a few examples of mass social mobilization. These movements have not only raised awareness about pressing issues but also led to significant policy changes and reforms.

Moreover, the younger generation's involvement in politics has grown significantly. This is evident from their active participation in student-led climate strikes, advocating for more aggressive action against climate change. Youth activists like Greta Thunberg have become influential figures in the global fight against climate change, demonstrating that future generations are taking an active role in shaping political discourse.

In contrast, some critics argue that society is becoming less engaged in political activism. They cite the rise of populist leaders and the polarization of politics as reasons for this decline in engagement. The increasing divide between different groups and parties has led to a lack of compromise and collaboration, resulting in political gridlock and frustration among citizens.

However, these counter-arguments do not necessarily indicate a decline in overall societal engagement. While it is true that political polarization can create an atmosphere of mistrust and animosity, it also galvanizes people to take action and participate in the democratic process. The rise of populist leaders has also sparked grassroots movements and increased public scrutiny of political decision-making.

In conclusion, society is becoming more engaged in political activism due to the rise of social media platforms, an increase in protests and demonstrations, and the active involvement of younger generations. Although there are valid counterarguments that suggest a decline in engagement, these do not negate the overall trend towards increased participation in political matters.
