On one hand, plastic pollution in the ocean can have several negative consequences for marine ecosystems. Firstly, microplastics, which are small pieces of broken-down plastics, can be ingested by marine animals such as fish and seabirds. This consumption can lead to physical harm, as these plastics can cause blockages in the digestive systems of these creatures. Additionally, larger plastic debris can entangle marine life, such as sea turtles or dolphins, causing injury or even death. Furthermore, chemicals from the plastics may bioaccumulate in the food chain, affecting not only marine species but also potentially entering the human food supply.
