Firstly, one major contributing factor to the increase in political polarization is the rise of social media platforms. With the advent of social media, individuals can now access information from a wide range of sources, often leading to the formation of echo chambers where people are exposed primarily to viewpoints that align with their own beliefs. This self-reinforcing environment can exacerbate political divisions and contribute to an "us versus them" mentality among citizens.

Secondly, the rise of populist leaders has also played a significant role in creating more politically polarized societies.
