Task 2 Topic: The importance of conserving water resources
Question: Some people argue that the conservation of water resources is essential for the future survival of human beings. Others believe that there are more pressing issues that need immediate attention, such as energy and food production. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Model Answer:
Conservation of water resources is indeed an important issue that deserves attention from all nations and communities across the globe. While it is true that energy and food production are equally essential for our survival, it cannot be denied that without access to clean and fresh water, these other concerns would be irrelevant.
The primary argument in favour of conserving water resources lies in its critical role in various aspects of life. Water is not only necessary for human consumption but also plays a significant part in agriculture, industry, and the environment. Moreover, the scarcity of clean water can lead to severe consequences such as diseases, famine, and even conflicts among nations.
On the other hand, proponents of prioritizing energy and food production argue that these two aspects are more pressing issues at present. For instance, without adequate access to energy, it becomes challenging to pump water from deep underground or purify it for human use. Similarly, the lack of food production can lead to scarcity, which in turn affects the availability of water as well.
In conclusion, while both conservation of water resources and addressing issues related to energy and food production are vital for our survival, it is essential to find a balance between these aspects. A holistic approach that considers all three elements simultaneously would be most effective in ensuring the sustainability of life on Earth. This balanced approach should be the focus of global efforts, as neglecting any one aspect could lead to severe repercussions.
