In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives and present my own view on the matter.

On one hand, it can be argued that governments have a duty to provide affordable housing as part of their social responsibility. The lack of access to suitable housing can lead to numerous social problems such as homelessness, overcrowding, and even mental health issues. Governments can mitigate these issues by implementing policies that ensure a certain level of affordability for all members of society. For example, subsidies, rent control measures, or the construction of public housing projects could help make housing more accessible to those with lower incomes.

On the other hand, some people argue that it is not the responsibility of the government to provide affordable housing but rather the individual's responsibility. They believe that individuals should take personal responsibility for their financial well-being and find ways to secure suitable accommodation within their means. This perspective asserts that relying on government intervention may lead to dependency and hinder people from achieving financial independence. In this view, governments can encourage homeownership by providing incentives such as low-interest loans or tax breaks for first-time buyers.

In conclusion, while it is essential for the government to play a role in addressing housing affordability issues, the responsibility should not solely fall on their shoulders. A balanced approach that combines both government intervention and individual responsibility can help ensure universal access to affordable housing. Governments can implement policies that encourage homeownership, while individuals must take steps to manage their finances wisely and secure suitable accommodation within their means.
