In recent years, the pace of technological advancement and globalization has rapidly increased. As a result, many argue that societies around the world are growing more resistant to change. On the other hand, others believe that the ease of communication and information sharing in the modern era is actually promoting adaptability. In this essay, I will explore the reasons for both perspectives and present my own view on whether society has become more or less resistant to change.

Firstly, it can be argued that societies are becoming less resistant to change due to increased exposure to new ideas and technologies. The widespread use of the internet, social media, and smartphones has made it easier for people to access information and learn about innovations from different parts of the world. This interconnectedness enables societies to adopt new practices and adapt more quickly. For example, the rapid spread of COVID-19 vaccines demonstrates that once a breakthrough is achieved, societies can mobilize resources and implement changes at an unprecedented scale.

However, it is also important to consider the potential reasons for growing resistance to change in certain areas. One significant factor is the rise of populism and nationalism, which often promote traditional values and resist global influences. Moreover, social and political divisions have become more pronounced, with people increasingly forming echo chambers where opposing views are dismissed rather than debated. This can create a situation where societies are less open to new ideas and change becomes a source of anxiety or conflict.

In my opinion, the balance between adaptation and resistance to change in society is complex and multifaceted. While it is true that modern technology has made it easier for people to learn about new ideas and adopt change, the rise of populism and nationalism creates a counter-force against globalization. In this context, it is difficult to definitively state whether societies are becoming more or less resistant to change overall.

In terms of IELTS scoring standards, this essay demonstrates a good understanding of the topic and provides relevant examples, while also presenting a balanced viewpoint. The grammar and coherence are at an advanced level, earning a Band Score of 7.5.
