In this essay, I will analyze both perspectives and provide evidence to support the conclusion that society's resistance to social change has increased in recent times.

One major factor contributing to an increase in societal resistance to change is the rise of cultural conservatism. Many people nowadays are more conscious of their cultural identity and heritage, which can lead to a desire to preserve traditional values and customs. This reluctance to accept change is evident in the backlash against multiculturalism and globalization, as well as the resurgence of nationalist movements worldwide. Moreover, the internet and social media have facilitated the spread of conservative ideologies, creating echo chambers where like-minded individuals reinforce each other's beliefs, thereby fostering a more resistant attitude towards change.

Technological advancements have also contributed to the growing resistance to social change. While technology has undoubtedly brought about significant progress in various fields, it has simultaneously created new challenges for societies to adapt. For instance, the rapid pace of technological development has led to a digital divide between those who can access and use these technologies effectively and those who cannot. This disparity exacerbates social inequality and fuels resistance among the less privileged sections of society. Additionally, concerns about privacy, surveillance, and job displacement have raised suspicions about the benefits of new technologies, causing people to become more skeptical and resistant to change.

Lastly, political polarization has played a crucial role in increasing societal resistance to social change. As political ideologies become increasingly polarized, people are more likely to align themselves with parties that share their views, leading to the formation of echo chambers. This self-reinforcing environment fosters an "us vs. them" mentality, making it difficult for individuals to accept or embrace new ideas from those perceived as "enemies."
