This shift is largely due to the influence of capitalism, social media, and the globalized world we live in today.

One major factor contributing to the rise of individualism is the widespread adoption of capitalist ideologies, which emphasize personal freedom and autonomy. Capitalism thrives on competition and innovation, which often require individuals to focus on their own goals and aspirations. As a result, people are driven to achieve success through hard work, perseverance, and self-reliance. This mindset has been reinforced by the economic growth experienced in many countries over the past few decades, as well as the rising influence of consumer culture.

Additionally, the rapid development of social media platforms has played a significant role in promoting individualism. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter allow users to showcase their personal lives and achievements, fostering a culture where self-expression and personal branding are highly valued. Moreover, these online spaces have created an environment where people are encouraged to share their unique perspectives, thoughts, and experiences with the world.

Globalization has also contributed to the shift towards individualism. As nations become more interconnected through trade, travel, and technology, people are exposed to a diverse range of cultures, ideas, and values. This increased exposure often leads individuals to question collectivist norms and traditions that may no longer seem relevant or suitable in a globalized world. In turn, this process can result in an emphasis on individual identity and autonomy.

While it is true that the value placed on individualism has grown in modern society, it does not necessarily mean that collectivism is being discarded entirely. Many societies still uphold the importance of family, community, and social cohesion. In conclusion, it can be argued that individualism has become more valued than collectivism in modern society due to the rise of capitalist ideologies, the impact of social media, and the effects of globalization. While collectivist values still hold significant weight in certain contexts, the shift towards prioritizing personal freedom and autonomy is a prominent feature of contemporary societies.
