This essay will discuss the importance of cultural sensitivity in international relations and provide examples to support the argument.
Firstly, cultural sensitivity is vital for establishing trust and rapport between nations. When diplomats, business people or tourists from one culture interact with those from another, it is essential to acknowledge and respect local customs and traditions. This can create a positive impression and foster mutual respect, which lays the foundation for long-lasting relationships. For instance, when Japanese businesspeople visit China for negotiations, they make an effort to understand and follow Chinese customs such as bowing and exchanging gifts, demonstrating their respect for the host culture.
Secondly, cultural sensitivity is crucial in avoiding misunderstandings and conflicts. Cultural differences can sometimes lead to misinterpretations, causing tension between nations.
