The first reason for supporting a ban on single-use plastics is the immense environmental impact they have. According to recent estimates, approximately 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans every year. This poses a significant threat to marine life, as many species mistake these plastics for food and ingest them, which can lead to injury or even death. Moreover, the breakdown of plastics releases harmful chemicals into the environment, which can have long-lasting effects on ecosystems and human health.
