While other issues such as habitat destruction and climate change also have a profound impact on biodiversity, it is important to analyze whether deforestation holds the key position in the chain of these environmental problems.

The process of deforestation involves clearing vast areas of forests to make way for agricultural activities, urbanization, and other developmental projects. This not only leads to a loss of natural habitats but also disrupts the delicate balance of ecosystems, causing irreversible damage to the environment. For instance, when trees are cut down on a large scale, it alters the microclimate in the affected region, leading to changes in rainfall patterns and temperatures. This further impacts the survival and reproduction rates of various species, pushing them towards extinction.

Moreover, deforestation is closely linked to other factors that contribute to the decline in biodiversity. For example, the removal of forests increases soil erosion, which affects the quality of water resources. This, in turn, impacts aquatic life and contributes to the loss of species inhabiting these ecosystems. Additionally, deforestation can exacerbate climate change by releasing large amounts of carbon dioxide stored in trees into the atmosphere.
