The effects of climate change have become increasingly apparent over the past few decades, and nowhere are these impacts felt more keenly than among indigenous communities. Indigenous peoples rely heavily on their natural environment for sustenance, shelter, and cultural practices; as a result, they are especially vulnerable to the alterations that climate change brings about.

Firstly, indigenous communities face the risk of losing their traditional lands due to rising sea levels, melting polar ice caps, and more frequent extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and storms. This loss not only disrupts these communities' ways of life but also threatens their cultural identity, which is deeply intertwined with the environment in which they have lived for generations.

Secondly, climate change has a direct impact on the availability and quality of resources that indigenous peoples rely upon. Changes in precipitation patterns can lead to water scarcity or flooding, affecting agriculture and animal husbandry. Additionally, rising temperatures can disrupt ecosystems and alter the migration patterns of species, impacting the availability of food sources such as fish and game. These shifts force communities to adapt their traditional practices, which may be challenging given the long-standing nature of these customs.

Lastly, climate change exacerbates existing social and economic inequalities among indigenous peoples.
