The rise of telecommuting has also allowed employees to work remotely from home, which can be beneficial in terms of flexibility and reducing commuting time.

However, critics argue that technology may in fact hinder social connections rather than enhancing them. For example, people often engage in "phantom" or "vacant" interactions, where they are physically present with others but mentally preoccupied with their devices. This lack of attention can lead to misunderstandings and strained relationships. Furthermore, the ease of connecting online may lead individuals to prioritize virtual relationships over face-to-face ones, resulting in shallow connections and loneliness.

Additionally, there are concerns about privacy and security when using digital platforms for communication. The potential for hacking or identity theft can erode trust between users, creating a sense of unease and disconnection.
