One of the most significant environmental impacts of urbanization is the loss of green spaces and habitats. As cities expand outwards, natural areas such as forests, grasslands, and wetlands are cleared to make way for development. This not only destroys the homes of numerous plant and animal species but also disrupts ecosystems, leading to a decline in biodiversity. Furthermore, deforestation can contribute to soil erosion and water pollution, which have long-lasting effects on the environment.

Another detrimental effect of urbanization is increased air and noise pollution. The concentration of vehicles, industry, and residential areas in cities leads to higher levels of emissions, particularly carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. These pollutants contribute to climate change, smog formation, and respiratory illnesses in humans.
