On the one hand, social media has the potential to boost self-esteem. For instance, it can provide a platform for individuals to showcase their talents, achievements, and personal interests. This sense of accomplishment and recognition from online followers can positively impact an individual's self-esteem, as they receive validation for their efforts and feel more confident in their abilities. Moreover, social media has enabled the formation of various support groups and online communities, where users can share their experiences, seek advice, and offer emotional support. In these spaces, individuals may find solace and understanding, thereby enhancing their self-esteem.

On the other hand, the negative impacts of social media on self-esteem are equally significant. The constant comparison with others is a major concern, as users often compare their lives, appearances, and achievements to those of their peers or public figures.
