On one hand, it is argued that social media can have a negative effect on students' academic performance. The distraction caused by social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, is well documented. Students often spend excessive amounts of time on these sites, engaging in activities like sharing posts, sending messages, and browsing through feeds. This behavior not only reduces the amount of time spent studying but also affects the quality of their work, as students may be less focused and attentive in class. Moreover, social media can lead to sleep deprivation, as late-night scrolling and posting can disrupt regular sleeping patterns, which in turn negatively impacts cognitive function and memory retention.
